visit to Blue Heron Farm

our family trip to visit the goats of Blue Heron Farm was fantastic.  we enjoyed the goats (and the dogs, pigs, chickens...)  and learned a lot about them.  after the tour we had a snack of Blue Heron Farm cheeses and crackers at long picnic tables beneath the trees and lisa and christian graciously answered all the questions we could ask.

andy and i left the farm inspired. i think we all got the feeling that the lifestyle at Blue Heron is one to envy.  well, all of us but asher, who still thinks "outside is stupid" and would not stand in the sun.  not even for baby goats.

so, there are no photos of asher, who didn't love the farm but did bond with the two huge great pyrenees that he hung out with in the shade.  that boy needs a dog.  greyson watched the milking like there was going to be a quiz.  he loved the goats - he seems to connect with animals more than people sometimes.  and we all know quinn is most happy when he is outside.  it was a great experience thanks to the warmth of lisa and christian and their obvious joy in their life's work.

it's truly wonderful to see where the food comes from and who the farmers are.  i think i'm going to start asking to tour all the farms i support at our farmer's markets.

we also got to spend part of the day driving through a piece of texas that is just lovely this time of year, the hills painted with blue bonnets.  those rolling blue hills have a way of making me feel content with the world.

  2. I stole the photo of Quinny hugging his new friend! This was such a cool & educational thing to do. I like your idea of touring local farms, too!
