coop guest

meet eliza.

eliza belongs to a little girl who lives near me.  she is a silkie  (like luna) and she's staying with us for a while.

another positive that came after the loss of my chickens is that we met a neighbor who also keeps chickens!  we had heard other hens clucking, but never went to investigate.

our neighbor heard about the lost chickens and came over to kindly say that he was sorry.

turns out his daughter had a little silkie that needed a break from being picked on by the rest of her flock.  we have coop space!  i jumped at the chance to let eliza stay.

so far eliza is getting on fine with venus and spring but she seems terrified of people.  since her family said she was calm and liked to be held and petted, i'm assuming she's just terrified of strange people - us.

she is also very uncertain of leaving the coop.  she has never free-ranged before.  she looks absolutely bewildered when i open the coop door and the other two walk outside (spring finally leaves the coop and has gotten the hang of following venus around the yard).   i certainly will not make eliza leave the coop.  i do feel sorry for her being left alone.

i imagine that her family will come up with a solution and eliza will go home soon.  she is a very loved chicken.  we will just enjoy her visit for as long as it lasts.

eliza left the coop for all of 15 seconds to check out the grass sprouting near the door.
